Going hungry for charity

MONEY raised at a day of fasting by South Yorkshire's Catholic community has been pledged to help relieve suffering in Africa.

CAFOD's annual Harvest Fast Day takes place today and the Catholic charity is to divert all funds raised to help the critical situation in Zimbabwe

Last year people in the Hallam Diocese – which includes Sheffield, Barnsley, Chesterfield, Doncaster and Worksop – raised 22,000, contributing to the national 1.3 million total.

Money raised this year will pay for food supplies for the country where a poor harvest has been forecast for another year.
