A Sheffield University musical maestro has been nominated for three prestigious honours at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2014.
Dr Fay Hield, from the Department of Music, has been shortlisted for Folk Singer of the Year.
She is also a contender in the Best Album and Best Group categories for Full English – an album and touring band established as a result of a Lottery- funded project to create a digital archive of source materials freely available online.
The critically acclaimed singer, who lectures in music, will also be performing at the Royal Albert Hall at the awards ceremony on February 19.
Dr Hield released her debut solo album Looking Glass in 2010 before launching her second album Orfeo last year as Fay Hield and The Hurricane Party.
“I was not expecting to be nominated for Best Singer and it came as a great surprise,” she said. “To be asked to play at the Royal Albert Hall is incredible. It will be absolutely fantastic to perform.”
