BEN Drew – that’s Plan B to you and me – is bound for one of our favourite woodlands on June 16 when he plays Sherwood Pines Forest Park.
The Brit Award-winner behind Stay Too Long, Prayin’ and The Recluse is doing seven shows at beauty spots, including the brilliant venue at Edwinstowe, near Worksop.
It is five years since Drew emerged, firstly as a rapper with his debut album Who Needs Actions When You Got Words. He won over the masses with his soulful shift to The Defamation Of Strickland Banks.
With a trio of Ivor Novello awards to his name, fans await the next chapter from this singer, writer, actor and film director, The Ballad Of Belmarsh, a return to hip-hop. He will also direct a film telling the story of Strickland Banks.
Tickets, priced £32, on sale 9am tomorrow: 03000 680400 or www.forestry.gov.uk/music
Single is now and Zenon
THE Zenon Band follow-up the release of latest single Can’t Breathe by hosting a jam night at Killamarsh venue The Midlands tonight.
Formed by Sheffield-born Polish lead singer/guitarist Zenon Boczar, the band is known as Zee in Poland due to Zenon being a traditional Polish name.
Their performances have aired on European TV and included an audience with the Polish president plus a Miss World pagent.
Their début album here, Falling, clinched them a deal with a Polish label and release of their first LP.
Singles have also reached number one on radio charts there and Zenon came second in the Polish selection for Eurovision. Their song State Of My Heart features in the film A Broken Life.
Evan and earth collide
LEMONHEADS fans will be hoping Evan Dando is less mardy than he was at Nottingham the other night where he grumbled about the venue and touted a thin set.
Tonight he’s at Plug playing breakthrough album It’s A Shame About Ray in full ahead of its 20th birthday next year and a new ‘best of’.
His second album for Atlantic Records breezed through 12 songs in just under 30 minutes. In recent times The Lemonheads released Varshons, a collection of covers including tracks by GG Allin, Wire, Gram Parsons and Leonard Cohen with guest vocals from Liv Tyler and Kate Moss.
The past year has seen Dando performing acoustic US dates with former band-mate Juliana Hatfield as well as solo and band shows elsewhere. Guitarist Josh Lattanzi (The Candles) and drummer Brian Nolan (American Hi-Fi) assist Dando here.
