A national singing competition will return to Sheffield this year – seeking talented singers, songwriters and rappers.

More than 9,000 hopefuls entered Open Mic UK last year and the search begins all over again this September as auditions arrive in the city.

Events coordinator Chris Grayston said: “I can’t wait to see what the Open Mic UK class of 2013 looks like.

“Every year the bar is raised and the quality gets higher and higher, we’re really looking forward to seeing some fresh talent come out of the Sheffield area.”

Sheffield’s Lucy Spraggan was previously a finalist in the competition, which has been running in the UK since 2008 and is one of the largest music competitions in the country.

Open auditions will be held at Sheffield City Hall on September 1.
