Review: Take That, Motorpoint Arena

Take That rule the world!

That was the feeling in the Motorpoint Arena on Monday as the legendary boy-turned-man band put on another ‘out of this world’ show.

Now in their 40s, the remaining trio of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen threw everything at this and added some humour as they introduced themselves as ‘what’s left of Take That’.

Most of the songs were from their second coming, with spectacular renditions of These Days and Rule The World, along with backdrops and special effects suitable for an Olympic opening ceremony.

There was an unexpected treat as they rolled back the years with some classic 90s dance moves to Could It Be Magic and Pray.

An underwater theme wowed the crowd with an impressive rain effect for The Flood before a flurry of fiery red costumes and fireworks for Relight My Fire.

Also worth a mention was Portrait, performed on a levitating motorbike hovering above the thousands of open-jawed fans.

There was an intimate performance and return to the high stools for Back For Good and the show closed in spectacular style with the arm-raising and air-punching Never Forget.

If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket, you’ll be telling your friends and sharing photographs about this one for a long time.

Take That are performing again at the Motorpoint Arena on Wednesday, June 24 and tickets are still available.
