Throughout the 1980s Simple Minds were one of the biggest names in pop.

The Glasgow band have topped the American billboard chart, achieved six Number One albums in the UK as well as topping the charts in places such as Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.

And now, Simple Minds are preparing a huge UK tour packed with hits such as 1985’s Don’t You (Forget About Me), from John Hughes’ film The Breakfast Club soundtrack and Alive and Kicking. Known as The Greatest Hits tour, it will feature Simple Minds’ members Jim Kerr, Charlie Burchill, Mel Gaynor, Andy Gillespie and Ged Grimes. The tour coincides with the release of their greatest hits collection, Celebrate.

The band formed in 1977, and while they are known for the hits such as Don’t You (Forget About Me) they did start out as a dark, left field, Krautrock dance act.

But this tour will span their entire career.

It comes to the City Hall on Friday April 26.
