There’s is nothing twee or cheery about Sheffield’s Black Earth.
The band - who formed only a matter of months ago - have made their name, and a cult following, out of their dark industrial alt rock.
The band make nods to Joy Division and Queens of the Stone Age in their drunge-laden melodies and their name - Black Earth – is evocative of this aesthetic.
Drummer Jacob Brailsford says: “There is an industrial thing going on with our music. We like our old music and listen to bands like Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire and Archery.”
The band have already secured a slot at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival in the summer.
But for now they are busy rehearsing at Stag Works, off John Street, ahead of their show.
Black Earth play at the Greystones, Greystones Road, on Saturday April 19.
