Britpop rockers Cast are back together and back on the road – and heading for Doncaster.
The band – frontman John Power, guitarist Liam ‘Skin’ Tyson, bassist Pete Wilkinson and drummer Keith O’Neill – enjoyed huge success in the mid to late 1990s, including three top-10 albums and seven top-10 singles, including Walkaway, Free Me and Live the Dream.
However, the band split in 2001 after fourth album, Beetroot, only reached number 78 in the charts.
Power embarked on a solo career, while Wilkinson and Tyson joined other bands and O’Neill turned to tour management.
The band reformed in 2010 with a tour to mark the 15th anniversary of debut album All Change, before recording a new album, Troubled Times, produced once again by John Leckie, who worked on All Change and the follow-up Mother Nature Calls.
Power said: “Getting back with the band and working with John again after all these years apart was just how I envisioned it when I started writing the songs for the album.
“Then it was all about putting into words what it was I was feeling, about the things I was seeing around me and troubled times is what we found.”
Wilkinson quit the band last year, but Power, Tyson and O’Neill remain and are hitting the road ahead of releasing a fifth album.
Cast play Diamond Live, Wood Street, Doncaster, on Saturday, June 27. For tickets, priced £17, visit www.diamondlive.co.uk.
