A full refund for step machine

JOHN Lane says his wife Marie is in great shape thanks to a daily workout - but the same can't be said for her step machine.

John bought a 'Twist n Shape' stepper for 90 from Vector Direct, but a year later one of the hydraulic pistons developed a leak.

The firm replaced it, but six months later the same fault occurred. Vector Direct arranged another replacement, but when it developed a crack two months later the company put its foot down. John, of Warren Lane, Chapeltown, Sheffield, said: "I was informed there was nothing they could do on this occasion, either from a replacement or refund point of view, as the item was over the 12-month warranty period."

John wondered where he stood with the Sale of Goods Act. The act states goods should last for a reasonable period, which can be up to seven years.

DAN McBride, Vector Direct manager, agreed to make a full refund after Action Desk reminded him of the Act.

He said: "We've never had a situation like this, nothing has ever come back faulty after the 12-month warranty period."
