Frontman Jarvis Cocker has urged fans to join the celebrations, which will include a meet and greet with band members Candida Doyle and Nick Banks, a pop-up shop, a quiz, karaoke and a fancy dress competition.

The Hallamshire Hotel has a long history with the band, having hosted their first-ever pub gig in Sheffield in August 1980.

It is also the venue they have played at the most during their 46-year career.

Artwork and posters from Pulp’s archive will be displayed inside the pub, while the pop-up shop will sell exclusive clothing, records, posters and other merchandise.

The shop will be open from noon until 8pm, with the meet and greet with Doyle and Banks taking place between noon and 1pm.

A Pulp quiz, raffle and fancy dress competition will run from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, before karaoke takes over between 8pm and 10.30pm.

In a message to Sheffield residents, frontman Cocker wrote: “People of Sheffield - do you know where the Town Hall is?

“People of Sheffield - do you know what time it is?

“It is time to have fun.”

Describing the celebrations as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to see the band honoured in their hometown, he added: “What are you waiting for?

“Put the Party of the Year in your diary right now.”
