Veggie nosh takes centre stage

HE may be a meat and two veg man - but even mayor Peter Davies agreed to try the veggie dishes at Doncaster market for National Vegetarian Week.

Mr Davies agreed to try some meat-free fare at Doncaster Markets as part of a celebration of vegetarian cookery.

A group of Doncaster College catering students got their pans out in public to give a live cooking demonstration on Goosehill, in front of the Fish Market, using ingredients from the stalls.

Samples were given to shoppers to taste, and there were queues in front of the tables as people waited to get a taste.

Mr Davies said: “The vegetarian day was a great way to highlight the fantastic fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, cheeses, olives and many other ingredients on sale at Doncaster Markets.”

National Vegetarian Week started yesterday and runs until Sunday, with events across the country. It is run by the Vegetarian Society.
