A tale of two wines, two supermarkets and two prices.

The Aldi version is cheap and cheerful and, it has to be said, a thoroughly decent drop. The ridiculously cheap £3.57 version has lots of fruit and that distinctive Côtes du Rhône earthiness but lacks the subtlety and depth of its Co-op counterpart which carries the extra £2.50 very well. With spice and deep red and violet hues, the Co-op version is a pretty classy mouthful with rich blackcurrant fruits, dark chocolate tones and an earthy depth. You pays your money...
