German wines are having a revival, but I hadn’t been persuaded back.
Too many memories of Liebfraumilch-infused Twentysomething hangovers. Plus I’d never really liked that strikingly strong, or way too sweet, reisling taste.
But this little sparkler from Black Tower proved a revelation. Here, as Monty Python would say, was something completely different.
Rose in colour and with only 9.5 per cent abv, it was light, frothy and refreshing.
Easily quaffable, I’d say - by anyone and everyone. It didn’t have much of a flavour, being not too sweet, not to heavy and not too alcoholic, but that can be a big bonus on a hot, sunny day when all you want is a fun bit of fizz.
It would do well at your Royal Wedding street party, this one.
