YOUNG carers chopped, diced and stirred until they whipped up a delicious menu for city politicians.

Eleven young carers created a three-course meal at Sheffield College’s Sparks Restaurant which was served to councillors Mary Lea and David Barker and the leader of Sheffield Council, Julie Dore.

A further seven young carers spoke to the councillors about their personal triumphs and challenges.

The Eat and Greet event was organised by Sheffield Young Carers Project which helps those between eight and 21, who look after someone at home with a physical illness, disability, mental health problem or a substance misuse issue.

The diners also watched a short film produced by the young carers.

And those who took part were presented with catering certificates and cooking utenstils.
