WE’LL go to any lengths to get our curry fix in our house.
So, after a recommendation from friends, I braved the worst snow of the winter so far, to crawl seven miles in my car at 20mph on seemingly ungritted roads, to order a takeaway at Zara’s in Tickhill.
And it seemed that Zara’s reputation is well founded.
Despite the appalling weather, the restaurant was packed with people enjoying a meal out or picking up a Saturday night takeaway.
My mind was made up after a quick scan of the menu, leaving me 20 minutes to enjoy a half of Acorn Blonde in the Oak down the road, while the food was freshly prepared.
The drive back home through the snow didn’t seem quite so bad as my tastebuds looked forward to chicken sag, lamb karai and four chapattis.
The food was still hot when I got there despite the freezing temperatures and Ann and I tucked into a really tasty takeaway.
Meat was plentiful and tender in both dishes with flavoursome sauces and none of that ghee slick you get with some takeaway curries.
The rice was well cooked and fragrant and the chapattis were soft with a nice chew factor.
The only minor gripe was with the karai, which could have done with a bit more ginger to pep up the sauce.
It would take more than a bit of snow to keep us from a takeaway this good.
