Takeaway Test: Thelma’s Deli, Sharrow Vale Road, Sheffield

Have your say

When heading on a proper Peak District walk, you need a proper sandwich.

And a flimsy high street concoction just won’t go the distance.

We headed to the popular Thelma’s Deli to pick up a roast chicken and chorizo ciabetta with rocket, sundried tomatoes and garlic mayo (£3.60). The walk leader declared it a ‘tasty fusion’ of flavours and, being half Italian, detected real olive oil in the bread.

I choose a doorstop of a Ploughman’s at the same take-out price. Generous fillings of coca cola cooked ham and onion chutney gave the cheese, rocket and tomato a sweet tang.

A scrumptious butter-filled scone topped off the picnic and kept us going the ten miles from Grindleford to Hope for under a tenner.
