THE trouble with takeaways is you get absolutely no idea what the food is like until you get it back home.
They rarely look impressive and this is one I’ve walked past many times but never stepped inside.
But after two weeks of watching athletes with bodies that look like they’ve never eaten a takeaway in their whole life, we decided to celebrate with a treat.
After all if Bolt can go that fast after eating chicken nuggets then surely a quick Chinese can’t do much harm?
Mange offers Cantonese, Peking and Thai cuisine and there is certainly a lot of choice on the menu.
The first thing you notice about Mange is that there is nothing really to notice. It is just a small shop front with no restaurant, just a counter and a few chairs for while you’re waiting.
But the second thing is the big smile that greats you and the real feeling of friendliness and welcome - it is a long time since I felt that in a takeaway.
The service is reasonably fast and there is plenty of parking outside. While we had decided to collect our our food they also do delivery free on orders over £10 and within three miles.
We decided to pick a selection of starter dishes to share as well as the favourite special friend rice.
The squid with chilli and salt was definitely the best. Squid can often be a disaster, too chewy and just not right but in this case it was delicious and a real winner.
The spare ribs with Peking sauce also tasted really good and were very tender.
It is a long time since I’ve had a spring roll which had such a generous helping of filling and that was a real hit.
The special rice was good but not amazing although all in all we enjoyed the whole meal.
So we feasted on Mange dishes while watching the closing ceremony of the greatest show on Earth.
The food certainly was good enough to make it past the heats and into the final.
