A LATE day at the office and guests coming for the weekend needs a simple solution to the pressing problem of Friday supper.
The answer lay on the doormat as we got home – a menu for Doncaster town centre’s latest takeaway, the enticingly named Little Italy.
After several Friday evenings watching the Italy Unpacked series on TV which recently concluded, it was an easy decision to get our little fix of Italian.
Guests had barely got their coats off before we were on the phone to their Silver Street kitchen to order three 10-inch pizzas and a side order of chips.
With it being Friday the staff warned us to expect a wait of up to an hour but just 45 minutes later the door bell rang.
The Tropicana – which seemed to veer into German territory with Black Forest roasted ham – and pineapple was especially nice and the vegetarian was also well received.
The BBQ chicken was a new one for my tastebuds and the sauce base was a little cloying but others pronounced it fine.
Little Italy offers 23 pizza variations, all on stone- baked bases, which were just right. They also offer deep fill options.
The list even includes the Donny Special, with a topping of chicken, donner kebab, peppers, sweetcorn and chillies.
The more daring can go for the only pizza with a ‘two chilli’ warning symbol, the Volcano, which is an eruption of spicy beef, onions, tomatoes, peppers and chilli.
A range of calzone – folded pizza stuffed with toppings – is also offered, along with a selection of kebabs, wraps and burgers, in either quarter pound or half pound sizes.
Little Italy also caters for those who fancy a selection of food and drink in one order with four separate meal deals.
Proprietor Maria Darban boasts: “My passion for cooking Italian cuisine and authentic stonebaked pizzas is shown in the food that I produce for you.
“From my wealth of experience in cooking and only using the finest quality ingredients I have combined great taste and fine quality in order to make delicious food.”
Our guests seemed well satisfied, so a big success for Little Italy.
