A Sheffield gastropub and hotel has announced a new offer to discourage people from drinking and driving.
For groups of five people dining at the Cross Sythes in Totley the driver will receive up to three soft drinks including Americano coffee, tea and draught soft drinks.
For groups of six people or more two drivers will be given free beverages.
“It’s inevitable that people are going to drive to our restaurant because our reputation travels further afield than just Totley, but we feel by offering people free soft drinks we’re removing that temptation to risk a glass of wine or a pint when driving,” said Stuart Hitchman, director at The Cross Scythes.
“We want to ensure everyone who visits us has a great time and we expect this offer to be popular.”
Stuart said he believes more venues should embrace his complimentary soft drinks for drivers policy and he thinks the police would support the idea.
He added: “2015 is in full swing and many people want to stick to their New Year’s resolutions to cut down on the drink, so driving offers the perfect excuse to stick to the soft drinks and cut down on alcohol.”
