Personal trainer and nutritionist Jon Hodgkinson recruited a network of local food producers as part of a campaign to promote healthy eating. Then he joined forces with Alex Styan of the new Dronfield Hall Barn to arrange a series of Local Producer Markets at the venue.
Now the event is set to become a quarterly feature following the success of the first... And a Christmas market is being planned for December 18, so shoppers can stock up on seasonal food and gifts.
More than 15 producers have already signed up, offering everything from honey and preserves to organic fruit and veg, chocolates, tea, coffee, cheese, meat and pies.
Jon will also be handing out recipes and promoting the benefits of healthy eating which he does through his blog, Real Food Func.
He says: "For me, the message behind the event is to get back to eating real food again and re-establish the benefits of local food produced to a high standard, with lower food mileage and seasonality."
MEET THE PRODUCERS
Local producers will also be lining up to show off their wares and offer free samples to customers at Mr Pickles' Yorkshire Food Emporium in Abbeydale Road on Saturday, 11am-5pm. See website for more details.
Steeple Corner – a new pay-as-you-feel café – was launched this week by the Real Junk Food Project in partnership with the Victoria Centre, Stafford Road. Open Mon, Wed and Sat for hot and cold meals. Customers contribute time, money or skills in return for dinner.
