IT may not be pukka, but a Barnsley amateur cook is hoping her Indian take on Italy’s favourite dish curries favour with telly judges in a national contest tomorrow.

On Thursday morning the spicy pizza Lorraine Stonier whipped up to tempt her partner on their first date goes head to head with two other novel ideas for toppings on ITV’s This Morning.

The bid to find The People’s Pizza, run by the show along with Domino’s Pizza, has drawn sackfuls of entries.

Ideas were whittled down to just three and now Lorraine’s Best of Both Saag Paneer Pizza, a combination of paneer cheese with spinach, onion and garam masala on a tomato sauce base with chilli, coriander, ginger and cumin, developed to marry her love of curry and her partner’s love of pizza, goes head to head with a version topped with shredded pulled pork in barbecue sauce, Swiss cheese and coleslaw and an Argentinean style with chimichurri marinated chicken and yellow and red peppers.

Says Lorraine, 35: “I’ve spent a lot of time in India and learned to cook curries there. My partner is more of a pizza fan so I developed this recipe to combine the two. I made it for him on our first date and have been making Best of Both ever since!

“When I heard This Morning was looking for exciting new pizzas, I thought mine fitted the bill perfectly.”

At 10.30am tomorrow viewers will see Lorraine attempt to win first prize and get her partner’s favourite pizza in Domino’s outlets throughout the UK early next year.
