FLOODS: Praise for city green efforts

ECO experts and politicians gathered for a debate about the environment at an event in Sheffield - and the city was praised for its efforts to tackle climate change.

The Sheffield Labour Environment Conference was at St Mary's Church, Bramall Lane. Speakers included secretary of state for the environment Hillary Benn MP.

Prof Tony Ryan of Sheffield University, and Roger Higman of Friends of the Earth, addressed the conference, with Sheffield Council leader Jan Wilson, cabinet member for transport and streetscene Bryan Lodge, and cabinet member for environment Mary Lea. Guests were told of investment of 50m on council house insulation and the aim to cut CO2 by 30%before 2012.
