Flood clothing collection OK

WITH the floods still a painful memory, Star readers have asked Action Desk to check the claims of a clothing collection service that aims to benefit the disaster relief fund.

Leaflets urging householders to leave goods outside have been delivered across the city. A spokesman for operator, Manchester-based recycling company I&G Cohen, said 30 from every tonne collected would be donated to the South Yorkshire Flood Disaster Fund.

The South Yorkshire Community Foundation, which administers the relief fund, confirmed they had an agreement with I&G Cohen and the leaflets were legitimate.

But it pays to be vigilant. The Star yesterday reported how conmen tried to steal money from the disaster fund within days of it being set up.

The fund's Yorkshire Bank account was targeted by cheats on four occasions - but the bank's strategic checks foiled the attempts at theft. For help with grants or to make a donation to the SYFDRF call 01709 868000
