Flats set for go-ahead

KELHAM Island's transformation from an industrial workshop to a cluster of trendy city centre flats looks set to continue with the approval of 48 apartments this week.

Sheffield Council planning chiefs have approved the plan for a vacant plot at the junction of Bowling Green Street and Russell Street.

The plan had originally been submitted at the end of last year but was withdrawn after officers recommended refusal due to the proposed black bricks.

This has now been substituted for the more traditional red brick.

The development will include a number of small one-bedroom flats dubbed “crash pads” which will be for sale for around 100,000.
