Flats appeal is rejected

PLANNING inspectors have thrown out an appeal by developers against the refusal of permission for 25 student flats and nine private apartments in Sheffield.

The application, for a site on Edward Street, Netherthorpe, was originally submitted in July last year but was turned down by councillors in October. An appeal was made against that decision. The Government's Planning Inspectorate upheld Sheffield Council's decision, saying: "The proposal is, overall, of a poor quality design".

Coun Tim Rippon, Sheffield Council cabinet member said: "It is great to see that the commitment and hard work that has been put into ensuring only designs of the highest quality receive approval is being supported by the Government."
