Fiancée left devastated

THE fiancée of a Sheffield man whose body was recovered from Ladybower Reservoir has spoken of her devastation at losing the "love of her life".

Father-of-two Stuart Hird, aged 56, was reported missing from his Ecclesall home last week and an appeal to help find him was made by police.

But police today confirmed Stuart's body was found in Ladybower Reservoir on Saturday afternoon.

His devastated fiance Mary McNulty today spoke of her grief and revealed how the couple had planned to marry later this month.

"He was and always will be the love of my life," said Mary, 51, who lives in Harrogate, West Yorkshire.

"We had been together for four years and we planned to get married this October."

Stuart had been living in Harrogate with Mary for the past 12 months but had recently returned to Sheffield to help "clear his head" as he was suffering from depression.

Prior to moving to Harrogate, the couple had shared homes in Sheffield and Derbyshire.

"Stuart did suffer from depression and I had tried very hard to get help for him," said Mary.

"He had returned to Sheffield, where he kept a cottage, for health reasons - to clear his head."

Twice divorced Stuart also leaves his son, from a previous relationship, who lives in the West Midlands and a 21-year-old daughter, from his second marriage, who lives in the Sheffield area.

The last person to hear from Stuart was his ex-wife who spoke to him on his mobile phone last Tuesday when he told her he was taking a walk in the Botanical Gardens.
