Ey up sunflower! - Esme's labour of love

WHETHER it's down to her green fingers or her name, little Esme Sunflower Mitchell is enjoying success in her Sheffield garden - after growing a 12ft tall namesake!

The five-year-old’s middle name was chosen by big sister Jade, aged 11, after dad Scott bought his wife a bunch of sunflowers when she was born.

Now she has grown the huge flower from a seed in the back garden of their house on Jenkin Road, Wincobank.

Esme, a pupil at Wincobank Nursery and Infant School, is a keen gardener and regularly helps mum Shelly on her allotment and with the greenhouse in the garden.

Scott said: “She’s really into it - she’s got her own plot on the allotment and she loves being out in her wellies.

“She’s really excited about the sunflower, but she really wants to be in the paper so she’s really excited about that too!”
