Eco friendly car showroom

AN ECO-friendly car showroom for four different dealerships is to be built in the east end of Sheffield.

The new car showrooms will be located opposite Meadowhall shopping centre on land adjoining Sheffield Road, Meadowhall Way and Weedon Street - the site of the former Staybrite Works.

The development, approved by councillors, will comprise four dealerships - BMW, Volkswagen, Mini and General Motors. The BMW dealership will be the largest of the four.

All the dealerships will be re-located from existing sites, although into larger premises, and it is estimated as many as 295 people will work there.

The design of the showroom is to include green roofs, solar panels and sustainable drainage.

Councillor Alan Law, Chair of the City Centre, South and East Planning Board, said: "We welcome the strong urban design and a real commitment to sustainability, on this gateway site from the M1.”
