Drugs found by police swoops

CLASS A drugs and stolen goods have been taken off Sheffield's streets as a result of a police crime crackdown.

Officers from Yorkshire and Humberside have joined forces for a summer campaign called Maximum Impact on Crime which runs until September 30, to get criminals off the streets.

Sgt Bob Chapman from the drugs unit said: "This was another pleasing result, taking more drugs out of circulation across Sheffield"

Countywide, drugs worth more than 200,000 were seized in just seven days.

The tally of arrests so far during the operation is 2,726, with 578 in South Yorkshire.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Paul Broadbent said: "Our message – that there is nowhere to hide for criminals – is really starting to give the people we are looking for cause for alarm."

The campaign is this week concentrating on street crime and anti-social behaviour.
