Drug barons for sentence

ELEVEN criminals who wired nearly £6million pounds of Yardie drugs cash to Jamaica from a newsagents in Pitsmoor, Sheffield, were today being sentenced over the massive money laundering scam.

The defendants, some of Sheffield’s most wanted drug barons and their wives and girlfriends, have all been convicted of various offences from dealing heroin and crack cocaine to money laundering.

The cash wired abroad was used by the dealers’ relatives and associates to buy luxury cars, businesses, land and mansions in Jamaica.

Judge Patrick Robertshaw, sitting at Sheffield Crown Court heard the case centred around Spital Hill News, Pitsmoor, owned by dad-of-three Raja Parvez Iqbal. Prosecutor Adrian Strong said Mr Iqbal, aged, 43, of Andover Street, Pitsmoor, actively assisted the dealers.
