Drivers tested in clampdown

THOUSANDS of motorists have been tested by South Yorkshire Police in a summer clampdown on drink and drug drivers.

A total of 4,492 people were breathalysed by officers across the county as part of a national drink driving campaign and a further 31 drivers were tested for drug use.

Of those tested, 218 proved positive, failed to provide a specimen or refused a breath test while 10 people were arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs.
