Darkness banished

FAULTY street lighting that meant dog walkers had to take their pets out by torchlight has been fixed thanks to The Star.

Residents of Wordsworth Avenue in Southey Green said the problem left the area in darkness – leading to concerns about personal safety and the security of cars.

After eight days of the problem Andrew Wragg, who lives on the street, complained to electricity firm CE Electric who manage the supply, but was told it was likely to be another week until it was fixed.

Ann Walker, from the company, admitted street lighting was not the “top priority” following the floods – but just a day after our story appeared one of the faults was fixed.

Four days later, another problem in the street was also dealt with. Ms Walker said: “All the street lights are now working.”
