Damien top sports star

BRITISH tumbling champion Damien Walters has been named sportsperson of the year in the annual Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire Sports Awards 2007.

Damien, ranked fifth in the world at the gymnastic discipline of tumbling, picked up the award at a ceremony in Chesterfield Town Hall.

Junior sportsperson awards went to table tennis star Liam Pitchford and taekwon-do champion Kimberley Bradshaw, while club of the year went to Chesterfield FC.

The winners will be judged for the Derbyshire Sports Awards and could have the chance to be put forward to the BBC Midlands Sports Awards.
