Countryside comes to city

A TOUCH of the countryside will be coming to a Sheffield community when a heritage fair is staged.

Parsonage Farm, off Townend Lane, Deepcar will be alive with wood workers, wool spinsters, willow weavers, dry stone wallers and working horses when Steel Valley Project holds the event from 11am to 4pm on Saturday September 15.

Visitors can learn about their special skills and try out the traditional crafts.

The fair, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Corus, Stocksbridge Town Council and Bradfield Parish Council, is aimed at encouraging people to use the local countryside and try out traditional woodland skills.

Rebecca Hughes, Steel Valley Project Heritage Officer, said: “The heritage fair is a fantastic opportunity for local communities to see how our local countryside is a rich source of skills and industry as well as an excellent place for recreation and a valuable home for lots of different wildlife.

Other attractions include fun activities for children, musical entertainment and stalls selling local produce and crafts.
