Clampdown on fly-tipping

SHEFFIELD Council was praised today for driving down fly-tipping - while nationwide the number of Incidents rose by five per cent last year.

Nearly half of all cases came from Liverpool, statistics showed.

But Waste Minister Joan Ruddock said: "Councils as diverse as Sheffield, Worthing and Milton Keynes are driving down fly-tipping through targeted, concerted action. I want other councils to follow their lead."

She also said the Government, public and businesses all had a role to play in cutting fly-tipping.
