A FILM documenting the life of a Sheffield footballer thought to be Britain’s first black professional will premiere in the city.

The Arthur Wharton Story, which follows his journey from Ghanaian missionary’s son to the Sheffield United first team, will be screened at the Void Cinema, Sheffield Hallam University’s Owen Building on Sunday, from 6pm – the date coincides with the late star’s 147th birthday.

The film also explores Arthur’s time at Yorkshire Main Colliery, Edlington, where he worked as a miner.
