A NEW play starring John Lithgow will be broadcast live to South Yorkshire cinemas this month.

The National Theatre’s production of The Magistrate is the latest piece of theatre to be watched via satellite by audiences worldwide since the theatre began the initiative in 2009.

Audiences in Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster will join those at more than 550 cinemas across the globe who will be able to watch the Oscar nominated actor live in action on January 17.

The Magistrate, by Arthur Wing Pinero, is a fast and furious farce, set in Victorian London.

Lithgow plays the respectable magistrate who finds himself caught up in a series of scandalous events.
