Choir and big band concert raises £3,250

AN OUTDOOR performance by a city choir and a Barnsley big band hit all the right notes for Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield.

The open air concert raised more than 2,000 for the cancer hospital and a further 1,000 for Macmillan Nurses.

Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir and the Barnsley-based Take Two showband joined forces and entertained an audience of more than 300 people in the Bolsterstone garden of choir patron Pam Brooks.

Pam’s husband Stuart was a popular member of the choir before his death from cancer five years ago.

The evening, which was compered by the choir’s former conductor Jeffrey Wynn Davies, ended with a fireworks display.

Events organiser for Weston Park Cat Newman was then presented with 2,200 for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Appeal, and a raffle held during the evening raised 1,050 for the Macmillan Nurses Trust.

Choir chairman Alan Hobson said: “It was a splendid occasion and served the dual purpose of providing first-class entertainment and also raising money for a charity close to Pam’s heart.”
