The youngster suffered serious head injuries, described by police as life threatening, in the accident, which happened about 25 metres north of Langdale Way.

A South Yorkshire Police said: "A red kit car was travelling along Lakeland Drive towards Dinnington when the girl, believed to be the front seat passenger, left it while it was in motion.

"She is thought to have been in contact with the vehicle's rear near-side wheel."

The teenager was initially rushed to Bassetlaw District General Hospital before being transferred to the intensive care unit at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

Her condition was described as critical but stable.

Witnesses or anyone who saw the car before the incident, on Saturday, at 10.10pm, should call the South Yorkshire Police accident witness line on 0114 2202070.
