Campaign puts abuse at home in the spotlight

A CAMPAIGN to highlight how domestic abuse affects Sheffield children has been launched today by the NSPCC.

The children's charity is working closely with Sheffield Domestic Abuse Forum to send out a clear message about the damaging impact of domestic abuse has on children in the city.

Part of the campaign will see an NSPCC practitioner based in Parson Cross and Ecclesfield to offer support to children and young people affected.

The practitioner will also offer a counselling service at Chaucer School in Parson Cross to give young people the opportunity to seek advice about any problems they may have.

The campaign will also publicise specialist helpline numbers for advice about domestic abuse as well as ChildLine's familiar number for any children or young people who have worries about abuse at home.

Coun Harry Harpham, Sheffield Council cabinet member children's services, said: "Domestic abuse is sickening and cruel and affects everyone in a family.

"We're absolutely committed to supporting and protecting children who are growing up surrounded by violence and abuse, and we're very pleased that the NSPCC are working with our teams to address this issue."
