Cafe plan set for go-ahead

A NEW cafe looks set be given the go-ahead on the main road in Woodseats – despite objections.

The two-storey mid-terraced building, on a busy stretch of Chesterfield Road between Woodseats House Road and Cobnar Road, is currently vacant and designated by the council for use as a shop.

Planning officers say that, although retail would be the preferred use for the building, a food outlet would be acceptable because 57 per cent of Woodseats Shopping Centre is already taken up by shops. The target figure is 50 per cent.

Sheffield Council has received five letters of objection, raising concerns about litter, parking, waste, cooking smells, and noise. Objectors say Woodseats already has too many cafes and takeaways.

But planning officers have recommended the application, to change use from retail, be granted.

The scheme will be discussed by the South and East planning board on Monday.
