Bus crash closes road

A CAR and a bus collided head-on yesterday, causing London Road in Sheffield to be closed in both directions.

The silver car and the number 20 First bus crashed near to the junction with Queen's Road.

The two drivers were both taken to the Northern General Hospital for routine check-ups.

But both vehicles were damaged in the smash and the road had to be closed in both directions while they were recovered. Brandon Jones, commercial director of First, said the bus had been stationary at the time. He added: "There were no reported customer injuries but our driver has reported minor injuries.

"Customers on the bus were transferred onto an alternative service. We are working closely with the police to understand the cause of the incident, including the use of CCTV." Police are appealing for witnesses.
