Babies spread water wings

SWIMMING classes for water babies are expanding across the region with the help of a new instructor.

Water Babies sessions have been running successfully in Sheffield for nearly five years.

Now mum Sarah Sundin, who has recently bought a South Yorkshire franchise, is also set to run the baby swimming schools in Rotherham and Misterton, near Doncaster.

She first got into the activity when she was pregnant with son Jacob.

Always one to keep fit, she had to find an alternative to her previous hobby of kick-boxing and settled on swimming.

She said: “After Jacob arrived it seemed only natural that I continue to swim and so I took him along to a class when he was just eight weeks old.”

Sarah loved it so much that she retrained as a Water Babies instructor and, just one year on, bought her own part of the company running the Sheffield and South Yorkshire region.

She explained the benefits of swimming for the children involved: “The emphasis in the half-hour sessions is primarily on the tiny babies and their parent or carer bonding and having fun, and activities only ever develop at each babies’ individual pace.

“Yet despite their gentle nature, the sessions also provide a complete physical work-out and studies have shown that participating babies have improved sleeping and eating patterns and flourish with the focused attention.”
