He has added indie rockers Cast and former Verve warm up DJ Wayne as support for his Leeds Millennium Square show in the city centre on Saturday, July 16.

Noel Gallagher of Oasis described watching Flying hitmakers Cast live as being like a "religious experience" and they were labelled ‘The Who of the 90s’.

Iconic singer-songwriter Ashcroft will is playing live following the release of his lauded album Acoustic Hymns Vol. 1 which charted in the UK at number two and includes new interpretations of classic solo tracks plus a host of compositions from The Verve’s repertoire of songs.

The album also includes his recent single, C’mon People We’re Making It Now, featuring former Oasis superstar frontman and his good pal Liam Gallagher.

Ashcroft first came to attention with The Verve when they released one of the biggest albums of the era, 1997's Urban Hymns, the UK’s 18th biggest selling album of all-time.

A succession of anthems remain staples of his live set today, including The Drugs Don’t Work, Lucky Man, Sonnet and Bitter Sweet Symphony.

He was the lead singer and occasional rhythm guitarist of the alternative rock band from their formation in 1990 until their original split in 1999.

As a successful solo artist he has released three UK top three solo albums.

Chris Martin, of Coldplay has described Ashcroft as 'the best singer in the world'.

He is a two-time Ivor Novello winner - of Songwriter of the Year in 1998 and Outstanding Contribution to British Music in 2019 - with five top five solo albums, including chart-topping debut Alone With Everybody.

Last year saw him perform a series of sold-out headline UK shows including the Royal Albert Hall and two nights at the London Palladium.

Richard Ashcroft will also be appearing at CarFest North, Chester, July 22-24 and Splendour, Wollaton Park, Nottingham, Saturday, July 23.
