In March music promoters SJM gave notice that they were applying for a license for three shows between June 4-6 2021, and now signs put on the park’s gates confirm that the application has been submitted to Sheffield City Council.

The notice states that the event will feature ‘provision of live music’ as well as the sale of alcohol at the event, but does not confirm which acts would be performing.

However, a Facebook event claiming that it is for the Arctic Monkeys has been set up by a group unaffiliated with SJM, and live music website eFestivals has claimed that the application has been filed directly on behalf of the band.

This comes after it was confirmed that Arctic Monkeys filed and then withdrew an application to put on concerts at Hillsborough Park in 2018.

That year, the band were said to have turned down the opportunity to headline Tramlines in favour of putting on their own events at Hillsborough Park.

Arctic Monkey’s management have been contacted by The Star however the rumours remain unconfirmed.

The Sheffield band released their latest album, ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’ in 2018, and there has been no indication of new music on the way since.

Drummer Matt Helders confirmed to NME that fans would not have to wait five years, like they did between their latest album and its 2013 predecessor ‘AM’.
