That venue has an exciting year ahead as the first phase of its new expansion is due to open later in 2020. The 150-acre project includes the arrival of new species for the up-sized animal reserves and a new hub for visitors with a hotel, restaurants, leisure shopping and a new entrance.

Doncaster will also welcome new attractions in 2020.

A purpose-built cinema and leisure complex will open in the Civic and Cultural Quarter alongside a new central library and museum which will showcase many exhibits never been seen before.

The railway station forecourt will be transformed into a new public space with a piece of public art that celebrates Doncaster’s rich rail and horse-racing heritage.

Mayflower 400 celebrations will recognise Doncaster’s connections to the American Pilgrim Fathers, while a statue honouring Doncaster’s mining heritage will arrive in the town centre.

The popular Visit Doncaster card will also be available to purchase from the Tourist Information Centre.

The card is available with the Purple Vouchers Book at a special combined price of £35, saving £10. This offers local and national money-saving offers worth £5,000 at hundreds of attractions, shops, travel firms and other outlets.

Coun Bill Mordue, council cabinet member for business, skills and economic development, said: “2020 is going to be a huge year in Doncaster with major events taking place, new attractions opening their doors and some wonderful artworks being installed.

“Everything you need to know to have a great time with family and friends is captured in our latest Visitor Guide.”
