Dance group to go international

SHEFFIELD based Vincent Dance Theatre is on a high following exceptional reviews in the New York Times on their American debut.

Dance production Broken Chords was described as 'astonishingly original' by New York reviewer Jennifer Dunning after their performance at the Montclair State University in New Jersey.

Charlotte Vincent, Artistic Director of Vincent Dance Theatre explained: "We were invited to perform in New York after New York Times Reviewer, John Rockwell selected Broken Chords as a highlight of British Dance Edition, an international dance festival held in Leeds in February 2006."

The company has been invited back to New York with its next production, Stand Up, in 2009. This is great news for Vincent Dance Theatre as it is eager to develop its international touring.

Sheffield Enterprise Clusters, which is contracted by Business Link South Yorkshire and funded by Yorkshire Forward, is assisting the theatre with their international development.

They have helped them develop a comprehensive business plan which outlines how to build on the previous international productions.

A grant of 5,000 has been awarded to the dance company which has been used to engage an international producer and create marketing materials to publicise productions to international venues.

Alex McWhirter, Head of Enterprise for Yorkshire Forward, said: "This is an excellent example of international business benefiting the community. The help and grant provided by Sheffield Enterprise Clusters will support Vincent Dance Theatre's development which will help their work continue to reach people in Yorkshire and across the UK."
