Classic Clapton, billed as the world’s number one Eric Clapton tribute band, are promising fans all the guitar icon’s greatest hits when they play South Yorkshire.

BUY TICKETS: Tickets are £20 to see the band’s first ever appearance at The Lamproom Theatre, in Barnsley, on Friday, March 11. Call the box office on 01226 200075 or visit www.barnsleylamproom.com.

Featuring Clapton look and sound-a-like front-man Mike Hall – who plays like him too – the two hour show will include an “unplugged” segment.

The band was formed in 1985 in Newcastle upon Tyne, long before the term “tribute band” was widely used and their ability to re-create Clapton’s electrifying stage performances caught the audience’s imagination.

Mike, who won a national look-alike competition held at London’s Madam Tussauds in 1999, has met Slowhand twice and even received a message of encouragement from the guitar maestro – which was written on a Concorde menu.

Tyne Tees Television were so impressed by the band that they made a programme about them, called Cover Their Tracks. It was shown in August 2000 and received rave reviews, leading to national recognition.

In 2001 they embarked on their first extensive tour of UK Theatres and since then they have continued to perform throughout the UK and Ireland including concerts at The Royal Festival Hall, London and a triumphant appearance at Glastonbury Festival in 2002.

They have performed numerous concerts in Europe including Ireland, Spain, Estonia, Holland and France. In 2009 they appeared for the first time in Mumbai.

They were invited back for three more concerts in India in 2016. This included performing in front of 3,500 people, back in Mumbai. In 2017 they appeared in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The quartet features three original members, Mike, drummer Danny Davison and bass guitarist/ backing vocalist Dave Robson. A former member of chart band Geordie, Dave played for them alongside Brian Johnson, who left to join AC/DC.

Keyboards and backing vocalist Steve Hutchinson, who played with Classic Clapton from 2003 to 2005, recently re-joined the band. He was a member of The Animals for six years during the 1990’s alongside original members Hilton Valentine and John Steel.

Classic Clapton have released three albums which will all be available at The Lamproom Theatre.

The Music Of Eric Clapton features 17 cover-versions. They followed that with a live double CD, called Classic Clapton Unplugged, recorded at Belfast Waterfront Hall.

In 2005 they released their third album, Classic Cream, featuring 20 songs made famous by the sixties supergroup.

Eric Clapton himself has been a major international star since the mid 1960's, when he revolutionised electric guitar playing with his virtuoso performances in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.

He has won an incredible 19 Grammy awards and is the only triple inductee into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – as a member of The Yardbirds, Cream and as a solo artist.

Now in his seventies, his recent tours tend to play large UK arenas. Classic Clapton gives fans the chance to hear his hits performed in intimate surroundings.

The whole of Clapton's illustrious career will be covered including his work with Cream, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, The Yardbirds, Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominos and his solo years.
