Amateur stage round-up

THERE'S a rare chance to re-live the magic of life on the Mississippi as Ellesmere Operatic Society take to the stage with their latest show.

Showstoppers 2007 will feature a section on the rarely-revived Broadway classic Showboat alongside hits from more familiar recent hits from both sides of the Atlantic.

The show, featuring Gary St John and Wayne Biggin, runs at the Montgomery Theatre from October 4 to 6 and tickets are on sale now on 0114 269 0566.
