02 Academy Sheffield launch night announced with city-favourite band set to play

The beloved Sheffield music venue has announced its official launch event for the beginning of next year

The 02 Academy Sheffield has announced it’s launch night will take place at the start of next year with a city-favourite band set to play.

Bosses at the venue on Arundel Gate in the city centre have revealed that on Saturday, January 23, 2027, it will open its doors again with the iconic indie band, ‘Rosadocs’, set to headline the night.

The five piece alt-rock band has risen through the ranks since their debut performance at 02 Academy Sheffield a decade ago in 2017, when they supported The Sherlocks.

Frontman of the band, Keelan Graney, said: “Since we were kids, picking up our instruments and living in the areas around Sheffield we’d always wanted to play O2 Academy Sheffield.

“We have been lucky enough to support some amazing bands there and this feels like such a special full circle moment to not only be returning to headline, but to be reopening this iconic venue that means so much to us. We are certainly going to make this a night to remember.”

Rosadocs have had a breakthrough year throughout 2026, performing at festivals such as Y Not Festival, Kendal Calling, and a main stage slot at Tramlines over the summer.

They are building towards their debut album joining Tri-Tone who have worked with many British and International artists over the years, including The Coral, The Lathums, Jamie Webster, Red Rum Club and Badly Drawn Boy.

This autumn sees the band take on an impressive list of venues across the UK and play two sold out nights at Sheffield’s Crookes Social Club next month.

A host of musical friends are joining them for the 02 Academy takeover in January including Crystal Tides, The Slates, Spanish Horses, Harriet Rose and Sonni Mills.

Priority tickets go on sale on Wednesday, October 28 at 10am, with the general tickets available to purchase on Friday, October 30 at 10am.

The announcement comes more than three years after it closed because of safety issues involving reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in the roof.

Now, music lovers of Sheffield can return to the 02 Academy and get the chance to enjoy live music at one of the city’s most beloved venues.

Since first opening in 1968 as the Top Rank Suite, it has hosted some legendary gigs and remained a cornerstone of Sheffield’s live music scene.
